Starting your first dance lesson at RAPA Dance is an exciting step into a world of movement, fun, and creativity! We understand that trying something new can feel a little daunting, so we've put together a guide to help make your first class as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.
What to Wear
The most important thing is to feel comfortable and ready to move. For your first lesson, we recommend wearing:
Leggings and a t-shirt.
Any sportswear that allows free movement.
Bare feet for ballet, or school shoes for tap (they work brilliantly for a first tap class!).
For our youngest dancers, especially in Baby Ballet, feel free to dress up in a favorite prince or princess outfit—it adds an extra touch of magic to the day! If you’d like to borrow a pair of dance shoes, we have a limited selection available in smaller sizes. Just drop us an email to let us know the size you need.
Where to Go
Our classes are held at the dance studios Ratton School in Eastbourne. The easiest entrance is via Park Lane at the back of the school. Look out for the BIG ALPHABET LETTERS at the Gym/Acro entrance. If your class isn’t in the gym, head to the triple white doors to the right.
Don’t forget to check your trial confirmation email for detailed directions to your
chosen class. There is free parking, toilets and a lift for anyone with mobility issues.
What to Expect in Your First Lesson
Every first lesson at RAPA is designed to be welcoming and fun. Here’s what you can expect:
A friendly introduction to your teacher and classmates.
Simple exercises to help you settle in and get comfortable with the style of dance.
Lots of encouragement and smiles!
We pride ourselves on creating a nurturing environment where every child can discover their love for dance at their own pace.
For Younger Dancers
If your child is joining Pre-Primary or Primary Ballet, Tap, or Modern, we have a recommended kit list to help you get started. However, these items are not compulsory until your child is settled and ready. You can view the essentials here and explore our full range of dancewear here.
Final Tip: Enjoy Your Lesson!
The first dance class is a wonderful opportunity to explore, have fun, and make new friends. Whether it’s your child’s first tap step or twirl in ballet, we’re here to make their dance journey special from the very first step.
We can’t wait to see you in class—welcome to the RAPA Dance family!
